Hot Takes: New York Times Targets Ag

This week, Tara’s Hot Take is an opinion piece that was shared by the New York Times on Halloween. This feature was targeting Dr. Frank Mitloehner at UC Davis for using lobbyist’s money to fund the UC Davis Clear Center. When Nat and Tara looked up the highest-paid industries by lobbyists, ag wasn’t even on the list. It’s easy to say that this was a weak effort to put down one of our own and it’s going to be interesting to see how what the follow-up is to this piece. Meat is the Moment: Yoga Girl is No Longer Vegan

This week’s Meat is the Moment segment is HUGE. Like it truly deserves its own episode. Natalie and Tara both came across this gal on Instagram this week, who had been a vegan for about 20 years of her life. In just the last couple of weeks, she came out on her podcast that she was no longer vegan. And the backlash that this poor gal received was about how us ag-vocates feel on a regular basis, but that’s beside the point. The point is, is that this is a glimmer of hope that we have people starting to realize that ag is not the problem. Make sure to catch Nat and Tara’s full conversation on this because it’s one you won’t want to miss. Catch the podcast episodes they are referring to below!

Industry News: Protesting & Plant-Based Meat

This week Tara is touching on all the different protests going on around agriculture. The first thing they are discussing is the protests going on in the UK where people are throwing food on classic works of art such as originals by Monet and Van Gogh. Together, these pieces of art are worth over $150 million and those aren’t modern-day appraised prices. These protesters’ main mission was to bring awareness around the increased cost of living and food security. The best part about this conversation is how Natalie and Tara dissect what they are actually protesting. If you’re looking to start advocating, this might be a good conversation to start!

Natalie’s industry news is all about fake meat. This week she is sharing all about the decline in the plant-based meat industry. While numbers across the industry are down, they still continue to crank out new products. With the release of the new Beyond Steak, Taco Bell is also releasing a Beyond Carne Asada option at their restaurants. And to wrap this conversation up, Natalie and Tara ask each other if they’ve ever tried a Beyond product themselves, what do you think their answers were? Tune in to find out!

Worth the Hype? Lumineux Teeth Whitening Strips

Last week both Natalie and Tara were told by you guys to try the Lumineux Teeth Whitening Strips from Amazon. Needless to say, both gals were wildly unimpressed. There are plenty of reasons why, but if you have been thinking about trying them, maybe think again because this product was NOT worth the hype. Remember if you have something that you want Natalie and Tara to try in this segment of the show, make sure to reach out via the Elevate Ag Instagram page or leave us a comment!

Ag Q & A: Grass-fed vs Grain-fed Part 2

Welcome to part 2 of Grass-fed versus Grain-fed cattle. Last week was a little intro into the conversation, some general stats, and the nutrient information between grass-fed milk and beef and grain-fed milk and beef. In today’s episode they are breaking down the environmental impact they both have as well. There are several studies that show feedlot-raised cattle actually have a lower carbon footprint because they are finished faster and more efficiently than grass-fed cattle. The largest takeaway from this conversation is that it should not be one or the other from a claim stand point, so whichever you prefer, support all producers! For the full conversation and stats on this topic, make sure to listen to the show and drop your comments on our Instagram!

To wrap up today’s episode, Nat and Tara cover their last segment, which is “Last Three Tabs” where they both cover the last three tabs they had open on their computer. If you haven’t caught this segment then make sure to tune in!
