Meghan Cates on Elevate Ag the Podcast

In today’s Mastermind episode, we’re speaking with Meghan Gates about building an online course and starting a YouTube channel. Meghan is a wife and mother of two, living out on the Oklahoma plains. Her passion for ranching, combined with all things homesteading, paint the picture of a true, old-fashioned western lifestyle. Armed with skills passed down from generations, Meghan is passionate about educating others on how to better grow, raise, preserve, and cook their own food. When she’s not juggling kids, you can find her elbows-deep in a pie, attempting a new skill, or talking to God while horseback.

Like many, Meghan started sharing online with one goal in mind and is now looking to grow her brand, diversify her income and expand her business. What started as simply sharing her homesteading life has slowly turned into brand work, an apparel line, and most recently, the launch of an online course with thoughts of pivoting to a YouTube channel. With so many changes, Meghan is here today to brainstorm what most of us ask ourselves - how do we successfully pivot our businesses?

Benefits of a Good Marketing Strategy

Through Meghan’s experiences on her farm, she is ready to create and launch her first course on laying hens. Her biggest concern was when she should start marketing, creating content, and putting out content for her audience. One of the biggest tips Natalie gives her right off the bat is to bring her audience along for the journey. Natalie and Tara recommend starting to talk about a launch about eight weeks out then getting serious about posting at four weeks.

Pre-Sale Launch vs Beta Launches

Meghan’s question at this point is what is the difference between doing a Pre-Sale Launch or a Beta Launch and which route she should go moving forward. It’s important to know what your goals are when you make your course, but Natalie and Tara went with a beta launch at full price with a bonus option rather than a discount.

Tips for Growing Your YouTube Channel and Repurposing Content

In order to start monetizing your YouTube, you will need 4,000 valid public watch hours from the previous 12 months, and at least 1,000 subscribers. Then as far as growing your YouTube, you can create all kinds of content not only for your course but also evergreen content that you can repurpose for other platforms as well. Natalie recommends
