Vox Releases Course on How to Eat Less Meat | Read the Story Here

This week’s news story series starts with a feature that was released just after the new year, claiming to be a practical guide on how to eat less meat. Not sure about you guys, but we see a huge problem here. Tara kicks off the conversation with a quote from the opening paragraph which states, “There’s more awareness than ever about the problems associated with industrial meat production, from its contribution to climate change and pollution to the abysmal treatment of animals and workers in meatpacking plants.” Nat goes on to say, that while this article is clearly pushing the anti-meat narrative, it doesn’t necessarily provide the best facts to encourage people to change the way they are eating. At this point in the conversation, Tara asks the audience, how many people think that mainstream media were pushing an anti-meat narrative, there were definitely some folks in the audience that believed they saw that narrative being pushed in media.

Natalie shares that she actually signed up for the course just to see what it was all about and she wasn’t at all impressed about the delivery or the facts that they shared to support their case of eating less meat. Make sure to tune in to catch all the details of this conversation live from Puerto Rico.

How To Eat Like Blue Zones In America with Dan Buettner | Listen to the Episode Here

This topic is actually not an article this week but instead a podcast episode that was referred to us by a friend. In case you’re like Tara and have no ideas what a “blue zone” is, let’s get you filled in. “Blue zones are regions in the world where people are speculated to live longer than average, identified by Gianni Pes, Michel Poulain, and Dan Buettner. There are five "blue zones" located in Japan, Italy, Costa Rica, Greece, and Loma Linda, California.” The podcast goes into detail on how you can incorporate aspects of a blue zone into your routine for a prolonged life. In the conversation, Tara goes over the principles that Dan Buettner covers and the one they wanted to chat about was the principle of having a mostly plant-based diet. Natalie shares an article written by Diana Rodgers where she broke down some principles of the blue zone and how it stands up from a dietary perspective. From a registered dietician's perspective, Diana actually broke down the diets from each of the five areas and found out there is very little similarity between all five diets. Ultimately, Nat and Tara both came to the conclusion that while there are many great principles you can work into your routine, living a mostly plant-based diet shouldn’t be one of them if you’re trying to prolong your life. You can find the full article by Diana Rodgers here on her take on Blue Zones.

As always, we’d love for you to join us over on the Discover Ag Instagram to let us know what you thought about today’s show and if you have any of your opinions on today’s stories. Natalie and Tara wrap up today’s episode by doing a live Q & A with their audience in Puerto Rico. Definitely don’t miss out on this part of the episode and we can’t wait to see you next week!
